Advisory Partner for Hardware Portfolios
I help investors de-risk physical product development by ensuring technical execution matches the business case.
My background is in Physics and cross-disciplinary R&D. Over 20 years, I’ve worked from the lab bench to the factory floor, eventually leading global R&D organizations at the executive level. I’ve seen where hardware fails at every stage.
Where I add value
Concept & Architecture
Physics doesn't care about a business plan. I evaluate technical feasibility and feature trade-offs early. I ensure the product is scoped correctly before the first dollar is spent on expensive prototyping
Production-Ready Design
The best way to handle production risk is to design it out from the start. I ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) are baked into the early decision process. This prevents the six-month delays that usually happen when a "finished" prototype hits the factory floor.
System Maturity
I don’t just look at a demo. I work with the team on the ground to evaluate Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) and pressure test the system design. We conduct rigorous design reviews to ensure the product is a stable system rather than a collection of fragile parts.
Lightweight Governance
I implement simple phase-gate systems that keep teams on track without adding bureaucracy. This provides investors with clear checkpoints to evaluate progress and protect further investment.
Engagement Models
Advisory Partner (Retainer)
Ongoing oversight for high-conviction hardware bets. I act as an objective technical advisor for the fund and a mentor for the portfolio's product leaders.
Regular technical health checks and "early warning" reporting.
Mentorship for VP-level leads to professionalize R&D operations.
Limited to 3 portfolio slots to ensure deep focus.
Targeted Technical Audit (Fixed Fee)
A time-bound deep dive into a pending investment or a critical pivot point.
Direct assessment of technical debt and team execution capability.
Reality check on the BOM, COGS, and launch timelines.
Actionable report on risks and recommended next steps.
